The Butterfinger Challenge: An Example of Cross PromotionLink: http://www.ifmc-consultants.com/shop I recently wrote a blog on cross promotion and the positive impact it can have when done right. Well, I found this great example from Butterfinger that I thought I'd share.
Butterfinger has partnered with Rob Lowe and Facebook to create a contest whereby entrants can “help rob finish a movie.” They can shoot a scene, create a score, or help design the movie poster. This is a perfect example of a product using a medium it wouldn’t normally use to help promote its brand.
I can see some of you asking, though, how does Butterfinger relate to films? Didn’t you say there had to be at least some relation? I did, but ask yourself this; when you think of candy at the movies, what sort of candies come to mind? Exactly.
This campaign is pretty cool, with its use of a famous star, humor, social media, interaction, QR codes and a tangible ability to win the contest. It’s not just an enter-your-name-in-a-hat scenario.
So go to Facebook or Butterfinger’s website to see what I’m talking about. Then hit the comments below and tell me what you think works and what could be changed.
