Spot the FakeYesterday's blog took a look at products that change the look of the package depending on where it's going in the world. But there's another issue that should be addressed in the world of Global Marketing; counterfeit products and just how good the products look. When you decide to create and market a product, know that there will be others out there who conterfeit your product to cash in on your idea. And many times, the fakes are almost impossible to spot. It's not just a matter of creating a similar product, a lot of times they'll use your identical packaging and sell it under your product name. Here are a few examples of products that look just as good as the original.
We've all seen and heard of this kind of counterfeit product. The name is changed slightly, but the look is still the same. Stephanie's example was getting a "Prado" wallet instead of a "Prada" wallet. But apparently that happened in a movie and not to her. Uhuh. Livestrong
A lot of times, people think of counterfeit as being something coveted and of a larger value. After all, why buy a fake, when the real one is so inexpensive? But that's just kicker. Most people won't see a smaller product and worry about whether it's real or not. For example, a lot of times counterfeit bills are made in smaller denominations because most people won't look for those. After all, when was the last time someone checked your one dollar bill? Nikon
Tech boxes are tricky, especially when sold to the average consumer. Many would never know that the product they hold is fake, is they'd have no idea what to look for. Here is a good example. Ask yourself, which is the fake? You may be surprised. Apple
Yes, there are groups out there willing to counterfeit a product as big as Apple. And the differences can be small. Would you know it was fake if you ended up with the one on the right? Medical Products
You are seeing that correct. The only difference between these two types of drugs is how smooth the aluminum wrap is around the edge. The differences can be that small.
Duracell
This last one on a website actually asked the question "Can you spoke the fake one?" Because only one of these packages is genuine. Sound off below if you think you know!
